Old Dominion won back-to-back AIAW national championships in 1979 and 1980, cementing their place in women's basketball history. Big Blue’s roar echoed nationwide, thanks to such players as Anne Donovan and the legendary Nancy Lieberman. Lieberman was the first woman in the state of Virginia to receive a varsity athletic scholarship, and paved the way for the heights women's basketball has achieved since.
